History

In 1977, the world's first disposable system for liquid soap was introduced, under the SterisolSystem brand. This was a result of an intensive cooperation between two small business units in the Kema Nobel Group, KeNova and Barnängen.

This was the start of an era with the now familiar blue soap bag as a base. The business concept behind the product - to provide products free from preservatives - which has taken Sterisol to a market-leading position in the Nordic region, is still used to evaluate all product development activities, and the "blue bag" has gradually acquired successors such as the "Hygiendunken" (1982), the "Globe" (1991) and the 2.5-litre system (2008).

In 1980, Sterisol achieved the status of an independent company within Nobel's consumer goods division, with the responsibility for servicing large end-users such as industry and hospitals, primarily in the Nordic market. In 1980, Norway became the first exporting country, followed closely by Denmark and then Finland.

All operations moved to Vadstena in 1982 through the acquisition of AB Glykocid. A constructive cooperation with Vadstena Municipality enabled Sterisol to acquire its own production unit and, in the same year, to invest in a completely new and totally unique hygiene plant close to the older Glykocid plant.

Sterisol was taken over in 1992, after a brief time in the ownership of German company Henkel, by Gepe International AG (www.gepegroup.com), an international industrial group that includes companies such as Cenova (www.cenova.se) and Biwex (www.biwex.se).
